Disability Bowling

A physical disability is a substantial and long-term limitation affecting a person’s mobility, physical functioning, stamina or agility. It can limit the individual, either temporarily or permanently
to take part in activities.

As part of a new initiative Anchorsholme Bowling Club and the Bowling Academy now have available, a variety of bowling aids that will allow those people with a physical disability the opportunity to take part in Crown Green Bowling.
All these people, from those with less serious ailments such as bad backs, to those that would require a wheelchair can be catered for.
Most sports require specialised wheelchairs for people with a disability to take part, and bowling is no exception. Due to the damage that a normal wheelchair will cause to the green, these cannot be used. Special chairs with wider wheels have been designed to overcome this problem.
Anchorsholme club has three wheelchairs with wide rollers placed underneath the seat which give a better centre of gravity, and do not damage the green. The other benefit is, there are no external wheels to interfere with the arm when delivering the bowl.

As an be seen in the photo we also have walking frames to assist those that need this style of support.
Other aids available include walking sticks which can also be used to pick up jacks and bowls.
Bowling arms will allow the bowler that cannot bend to not only pick up his bowl but send it on its way without any effort.

We are holding a Disability Day every second friday of the month from 11.30am. Anyone with a disability is welcome to come to the club and have some fun bowling.
